유정현의 회화는 붓질의 속도감, 운동성, 압력과 같은 물리적인 속성들이 가져다주는 긴장감에 중점을 두고 있다. 그녀의 회화에서 자연의 형상은 뚜렷한 계기보다는 상당히 자연스러운 등장이다. 계획하지 않고 변화를 도모하는 작가의 작업 방식은 꽤나 자연의 성질과 닮아 있는데, 우연스럽게 추상적인 것으로 몰두하다 보니 예사스럽게 식물의 형상이 드러나기도 한다.


이는 단순히 특정 대상을 묘사하기보다는 그리는 과정 속에서 우연히 발견된 형상에 몰입하다보니 구상과 비구상의 경계선에서 자연의 형태가 발현되는 것이다. 작가는 캔버스 위 빠른 속도로 그어낸 붓질, 그로 인해 생기는 기포와 얼룩들, 애써 만든 붓질을 닦거나 지우는 방식, 이미 그려낸 형상을 다시 물감으로 덮는 것과 같은 일련의 과정들을 쉴 새없이 반복한다. 작가는 이러한 과정을 통해 그녀만의 조형적 선택들을 적극적으로 수렴하면서 필연적인 형상들을 캔버스 위로 품어낸다.



Junghyun’s Yoo works focus on tensions created from physical characteristics of brush strokes such as the speed, movements, and pressures. The form of nature in her drawings is presented as a fairly natural appearance rather than a clear event. The artist’s technique of painting is based on changes rather than plans and this resembles the characteristic of nature quite well. As she is naturally immersed in abstract things, shapes of plants appear in her works.


This is because she focuses on accidently discovered forms and shapes during the process of creating her pieces instead of working on a specific subject, forms of nature are generated at the boundary between figurative and non-figurative worlds. She continuously repeats a series of steps such as brushing on the canvas at high speed, generating bubbles unintentionally in this process, wiping or removing brush strokes that she has created, and covering shapes that habe been already painted. Through this process, the artist actively converges her own formative choices and brings inevitable forms onto her canvas.
