최영빈은 회화를 통해 관찰자로서의 자아와 세계 사이의 긴장을 탐구한다. 그는 그림을 그리는 행위가 자기 자신을 바라보는 시선과 자연 속에 스며드는 감각의 상태 사이에서 이루어진다고 말한다. 물감의 덩어리를 밀고, 번지는 색을 구조화하며, 반복되는 패턴 안에 자신의 흔적을 남기는 작업은 주체의 사라짐과 저항 사이를 오가는 과정이다. 그녀의 화면은 자연과 일치를 지향하면서도 끝내 그 경계에서 머무는 의지의 기록이다. 인위적인 제스처와 질서 속에 감각의 긴장을 가두며, 끝내는 관찰자의 눈만이 남는다. 최영빈의 회화는 완성된 이미지가 아니라, 자신을 밀어붙이는 행위 그 자체로서 존재한다.
Choi Youngbin explores the tension between her ego as an observer and the world through paintings. She says that the act of painting is made between the gaze at herself and the state of the senses permeating nature. The work of pushing lumps of paint, structuring the spreading colors, and leaving traces of herself in repeating patterns is a process of moving between the disappearance and resistance of the subject. Her paintings are records of the will to unite with nature while ultimately staying on the border. She confines the tension of the senses in artificial gestures and order, and in the end, only the eyes of the observer remain. Choi Youngbin's paintings exist not as finished images, but as an act of pushing herself.
